Question #1

Monday, April 14th, 2008

questionThis Sunday night, after a message where I finally came out and explained my understanding of the book of Revelation and the how the future of history will unfold, we had a time of q&a. Sunday night produced a flurry of great questions about the book of Revelation. I’ll try to answer as many as my time and competency allow for!

Question #1: “if you believe in amillennialism, do you think people can have visions of the end times and that it’s near?” (more…)

Reading the Book of Revelation

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Connexion LogoRecently, two experiences have helped me understand how to read the book of Revelation: reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy (thanks Sarah) and watching the TV show Lost (thanks Doug, I think). Why have these been helpful in reading revelation? Because they break with typical story telling conventions. (more…)

questionWe all remember the WWJD craze right? What a great evangelical contribution to fashion; in fact, did we start the whole bracelet fad or was it Lance Armstrong? Ok, well I want to ask a slightly different question - “what would Jesus say?”, specifically, “what would Jesus say to the church?”

If you could only keep 3 books from the New Testament…

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

questionI was thinking about this today: if I could only keep three books from the New Testament, which ones would I keep? I’ve got my ideas, but would love to hear yours. Which ones would you keep and why (no long explanation needed)?

Question #1 from Sunday’s message - what about abuse?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

questionSunday night I mentioned that the message on male/female differences raised many questions, and that I would try to find the time to answer some of those on the website. So, here I go. I affirmed the complimentarian understanding of male and female roles in marriage and in the church. That means men and women are equal in dignity, value, worth, equal heirs of gospel promises and possessing an equal share of the Holy Spirit. This equality is not incompatible with a distinction in roles - men are to lead in the home and in the church and women are to submit to this leadership.  Men are to love their wives like Christ loves the church and women are to respect their husbands. This is a very high calling for both men and women (and the source of a beautiful harmony and unspeakable joy).

Now to the question - is a women bound to submission when her husband is abusive? (more…)

Connexion and the Colts

Friday, January 19th, 2007

coltsI have to admit, I wasn’t all that excited when I saw the Colts would be playing the Pats this Sunday night. First, I’m a Dolphins fan (no comments please).  However, the real reason for my lack of exuberance was the timing of the game - 6:30pm. That meant it would conflict with Connexion and it would most certainly affect our turnout. However, what started as frustration has turned to excitement (not about the Colts, but about Connexion)
