The Holy Spirit: Doctrine or Person?

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

question Which is it: doctrine or person? I hope it’s both, but fear it’s not. We certainly should have a ‘theology of the Spirit’, however, I fear that is where most of us stop, neglecting the ‘delicious truth’ that the Holy Spirit is a a person. That’s why we end up talking about the Spirit with impersonal pronouns like ‘it’ instead of the more proper personal pronouns like ‘he’. (more…)

Christmas Conference Update

Monday, January 1st, 2007

Paul Helms replied to yesterday’s post about IUCCC’s annual Indy Christmas Conference. Here’s what he had to say:

Hey guys,

IUCCC IndyJust thought I’d represent for the Christmas Conference crowd. I got back a few hours ago and have been blessed tremendously by the fellowship, worship, teaching and time in Indianapolis in general. It was my first time to attend the entire conference (though I’m a senior and have been involved with CRU for awhile now) and I must say that those of you who have little to do during your breaks (spring, summer, winter, whatever!) should greatly consider taking part of your time out to join other Christians at conferences like Urbana, Passion, Christmas Conference, etc. or on mission trips. It is well worth your while!

Happy New Year’s everyone!

Thanks to Eric Lee for the photo. Hope to see all of you soon!

Urbana 06

Barbara Bandera’s Reflections on Urbana: “I sought the LORD and he answered me…” I found Pioneers and African Inland Mission and their organizations mirror what is on my heart…and here at Urbana, finding that on the first day is a miracle. I am signed up and ready for the next step, Hallelujah!! (more…)

Urbana 06Yesterday, here at Urbana, they fed 750 people every 9 minutes at some points during the 2 hour dinner time! Tonight, we experienced what hunger and relief ngo’s might serve starving people to prevent them from dying. A greenish, slightly lumpy porridge was served (with added nutrients) and 3 packets of sugar. A bottle of water was also given to each participant. The wait staff were even cheering us on! The money that was saved on that meal was then donated to HIV/AIDS prevention and relief organizations. Praise the Lord for that!

Day One almost to an end…

This morning our hotel along with some of the others all started out with freezing cold showers! Yay for 22,000 students in one city! Today was filled with great worship (including several songs in Spanish, Korean and an African language), dance, drama, time to visit the many exhibits, seminars and a morning and evening session.

in Christ alone

Jesus IconI have got to admit something to you. This semester has really challenged my thought, faith, theology, and the very core of my belief. I’ve tried to take a different approach to the message series. Instead of a refresher course on who Christ is, I decided to listen as if I have never heard the truth before. I have approached the matter of Jesus Christ, His Deity, His Uniqueness, and His God-ness as if it has been the first time I have heard anything about Him. It has been good; it has brought back a shock and awe factor to my faith that seemed to be stagnant for so long. Let me explain…

I love parties, I love going to social gatherings, they are always fun. Whether it is a Super Bowl Party, social meeting, wedding, etc. When receiving an invitation, in my head, I always wonder, “I wonder who’s going to be there.” Then I run down a list of people I think may or may not be invite.

For those that didn’t make it to a Sunday service or Connexion last night, Pastor Bob and Dan both made a huge invitation (you can listen to Bob’s sermon in the Connexion Media section if you missed it). In Sunday morning’s message Dan spoke of our invitation to this great banquet and feast. Sunday evening, Bob touched on the invitation the Samaritan woman accepted from Jesus, the Messiah…

Is it just me, or do the weirdest deaths happen around this time of the year? I’m not saying that people don’t die any other month, but it just seems to me that we have some weird occurrences always in September. For example, Princess Diana died in the early morning of September 1 (1997), Mother Teresa September 5 (1997), “911” (2001), and just recently the beloved animal conservationist Steve Irwin (2006). I’m not saying that Steve Irwin belongs in that category of greatness, but it’s weird, an international star randomly losing his life in the month of September in a freak accident…

First off, welcome, welcome, welcome to your first day of school. I’m sure not all of you are as thrilled as I am, but it’s simple, I’m no longer a student! However I take great pleasure in welcoming you to this semester and year. There have been many people praying for you as you start school this week, both for your academic and spiritual lives. I am excited to see what God will do in your lives…
